New Year Commences

There are some great students this year in my studio and classes. August is hot but the classroom has some cool kids that know how to make me smile. My beginning orchestra at TIS is SO Chatty. My goodness, they could talk their legs off. I had to get after them today. Ugly little suckers...But they are so eager to learn their instruments. It is fun to teach them. My intermediate orchestra is amazing. The sound is incredible. My DMS group is substantial and they sight read their new pieces really well. Kinda cool, I think.

NOVEMBER????

WHere has the time gone? We are in second quarter and Parent Teacher Conferences were last night. The Dickens Festival is almost upon us and the Christmas season is right after. Cool weather makes it all tolerable.

School Has Started...

Back to School 2009. Everyone came back and off we go with music and fun. Tonaquint Intermediate has 41 kids new to strings and 46 old ones. The DMS orch is awesome this year...working on the new songs for the new year. Choir is big with over 40 kids and my guitar classes have over 38 kids each. Nice group too. We are off getting good at the PIMA patterns and left hand stuff. Lessons are filling up. My summer is over.

Summer Strings Big Success

We had a great first summer of Summer Strings for the Dixie/Desert Hills Cone Site. It was fabulous. Had fun and learned some great stuff. School begins in only 34 days... let the summer wind down...getting movies, scrapbooks, and sewing done but not much reading. Summer lessons are slow but fulfilling. Enjoying the time off.

Heard the MTC sing last Sunday, July 4th weekend, it was fabulous...we were really moved...great visit with Conrad.

Concert season upon us

We just finished regionals with a II plus, and state solo/ensembles. Everyone did well. The May 2 concert of cellists was a bust as only four people could perform versus 10 so we canceled. Sorry to those who had prepared. It was nice to have a day off though...got some quilting done and errands ran...
This week is the play Bye Bye Birdie...Thursday and Friday nights at 6 and 8pm at the DMS Cafeteria.
Next week on Tues and Thurs is the orchestra concerts. Tis is 6pm on Tues and DHS/DMS is 6pm on Thurs at DHS Auditorium.
Choir concert is May 18 at DMS Cafeteria. Concert time, 6pm.

Counting Down

We have only nine weeks of school left and only a handful of concerts. All is well.

DMS DHS Concerts A complete success!

DMS and DHS concerts were tonight and they did very well. Great mix of music. We celebrated Lincoln's 200th birthday. They played well. We were done before 7:30pm.
It has been a long week we had four concerts for the fifth graders at TIS and SUPAF was last week. The groups all got superior ratings. Excellent jobs by all. Now we begin the end of year countdown and a burrage of competitions and graduation. PHEW.
Spring break cannot come soon enough....

Honors Orchestra At Desert Hills High

Last night we had a great concert at DHHS. The auditorium is beautiful and the atmosphere was lovely. Great songs from both groups. We have decided it was fun to have all of us conduct so next years' theme is Westward HO! Last night's theme was Lincoln Portrait. The kids had a good time performing and we were glad to share the stage. Now we have regional solo/ensemble, SUPAF, UMEA, regional and state big ensembles and graduation. The worst part of the year is yet to come...brace yourself.
Group has been changed to Feb 6th due to EFY conflicts. Quartets are at 1pm on Jan 31 though..see everyone then.

Dickens' Festival

The recital for Fall is over. The Dickens Festival is Saturday. Three weeks of lessons left this semester. All is good. I am off to Illinois to see my brothers' family as he is crossed over and I know is doing just great. We will all be together at some future date. The grandchildren were just wonderful and we are home thinking that we need to get the tree out...maybe later...much later.
Honors Orch is soon, Three DHS kids made All State and off we go...to the next semester...WOO...

School has begun and here is the latest

We have got everything rollin again. Two groups have happened since the beginning of the year...today we worked on Hunter's Chorus, Twinkle A and D, boil, and the vivaldi for the Halloween concert. We had a great rehearsal on the Cheney book one and two for spring. Best we have ever sounded. The Christmas songs are coming along. The CD accompaniment was faster and slower than we usually do them. But it was ok. We got the St. George Chamber Society quartet club rolling...next time it will be Oct. 25th at DMS at 10am right after the Halloween Concert rehearsal. Good, all in one day. Then come again next week, Nov.1 for the Christmas rehearsal. We play Dec. 5th at Dickens Festival and The Meadows from 10:15 to noon. Should be great.
We have a cello group working on Ruby Tuesday and Dust in the Wind. They should perform in the spring.
Fall recital is Nov 17th at DMS. We have everything rolling. Thanks for the great start.

Summer Musings

Well, it has been a great summer. Lots of time off to rest, reguvinate, and swim. I love it when I get cool and swimming is my favorite activity because it gets me moving in the am. but also creates for me a place to float. Since gravity takes a lot out of me, I think floating is the best. I have read some great novels this summer, scrapbooked, quilted some baby quilts with one more to go... and have enjoyed just being a blob. My studio has been really relaxed and many of my students have just blossomed with music camps, vacations, and some extra practice time they don't get during school. So it has been a great summer for all. Micah and Sarah just left for Carnegie Mellon, David and Julie are busy with school in Erie, the grandkids are growing and soon we will have two more. Conrad was born June 30th to Diana and Ryan and we have been to meet him. He is so small and precious. We bless him in two weeks. It will be so nice to have them closer to Salt Lake. They are looking for housing in the Ogden area so he can go to work at Hill Air Force Base.
Dallin has had a few classes this summer at the Massage School but basically home and gaming on War Craft and helping us out by doing massages to practice on us. Macy has had a great summer with friends, drill, work, and play. She is up north this weekend enjoying the cooler weather.
We have had several guests over the summer and have had a great time seeing everyone and getting some movies done. Thank goodness for Netflix...we would be so lost without them. We also have had a chance to go to the movies and there has been some fun ones out there. Wall E was really a hoot.
School begins soon and we must turn our thoughts to the daily grind again. I am looking forward to a new job doing orchestra a three schools and two choirs. Hope to return to counseling some day again. Working on the schedule for fall in the studio and putting together my groups and such.
Well, the time is far spent. I must go and do those last minute items I keep putting down the road. Off to the grind again after a much needed rest.
